Department Levels

Department Levels are part of a leveling system exclusive to Cog Boss fights, giving players rewards for reaching levels 10, 20, and 30. Some of these rewards provide permanent boosts to players' Boss progression, aiding in Merit requirements and increasing Boss Rewards earned. There are Department Levels for each Cog Department with the exception of Boardbots whose Boss has not yet released. Department Levels are maxed at level 30.

Department Experience is gained by participating in a Boss fight, such as damaging or stunning the Boss. During the Boss fight, players' level progression is tracked on the Experiometer at the bottom of the screen. Players can also view their Department Level progress on the Cog Disguise page of the Shtickerbook.

The following is a chart of experience needed per level.

Level 20
Reaching Level 20 will allow 50% of your Merits to carry over into the next Promotions for that Department. For example, if your current Promotion requires 1,100 Merits, you'd start out with +550 Merits for the Promotion afterwards. However, Merits will not carry over if the previous Promotion's Merit requirement exceeds the next (e.g. Promoting to the next Cog Suit).

  • Example: A Level 29 Big Cheese requires 23,300 Stock Options to promote, while Level 30's Promotion only requires 2,880 Stock Options. Due to the Merit requirement for Level 30 being less than the previous Promotion, none of the Level 29's Merits will carry over into it.

Level 30
Reaching Level 30 permanently increases the amount of Boss Rewards gained from that Department's Boss:

Maxing All Department Levels
After maxing all four available Department Levels, Toons will unlock an additional Training Point for Gags.

Gaining Department Experience

Department Experience is earned by performing certain tasks in the final round of Cog Bosses, such as damaging and stunning the Boss. Experience gained can be increased by using Department XP Boosters and/or by playing during Tactical Thursday. Defeating the Cog Boss rewards the player with +1,000 Department XP. This amount is also affected by the previously mentioned multipliers.

The amount of experience Toons can earn varies depending on the Cog Tier of the Toon's Cog Disguise.

Suit Tier 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Maxed
Multiplier 1x 1x 1x 1.05x 1.05x 1.05x 1.1x 1.2x 1.5x

Example: A Toon with a Two-Face Suit will earn a 1.05x multiplier towards V.P. Department Level experience as a Two-Face is a Tier 6 Cog.

Certain actions will reward diminishing returns for Department Experience, i.e. repeatedly using the same method to gain experience will reward less and less each time. Methods subject to diminishing returns will have a note next to their experience payout.
