Reorganizing General Strategies

General Strategies is really disordered and hard to parse. It might be a good idea to have subsections, if not full sections, to allow people to find what particular bits of strategy they're looking for and also to break up the solid walls of text with more visuals.

I'm suggesting this page adds sections about how to contend with different cheat moves, information which is all already in the general section and would simply be placed under their cheat move banners to allow people struggling with just a particular aspect of the fight to find where that section is and read it.

Cheat moves to be included could be Rush Job, Content Sync, Mile-a-Minute, and Moving Goalposts, each of which already has basically all of the strategies associated with them already just stuck in at random spots in the general section.

I went ahead and added some headers and separated the general section a bit more. I think banners would be a bit too much and despite the largeness of the page, I think we would rather it continue to decrease in size rather than increase. Also, I think with bolding some of the more important parts the page is a bit easier to read. Workingrabbits (talk) 06:02, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

My bad, I ended up adding banners in between posting this and your response. I think more visuals would really help this page be readable to people who, like me, have short attention spans. If you disagree, your bold headers worked well, too.

RetroBeany, I don't really know how to interact with talk pages on this site.

Hi Retro Beany,
The cheat banners felt a bit too large and clunky, so they're being rolled back. Aside from the cheat banners, what other ideas do you have for visual aids? I liked the one you made for Gag Track columns. (type four tildes ~~~~ to leave a signature and timestamp for talk pages if you'd like!) DigginsTheTrueDiggins (talk) 06:15, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

I think more pictures and gifs of a few particularly visual aspects of this fight would be a good idea, if we're trying to cut down on unnecessary visuals. One I'll need to make a gif about is the way a banned trap gag looks, how it subtly flashes red, and comparing it to a regular looking trap gag. Another gif that might be nice but absolutely isn't necessary would be one that counts from 6 seconds to 0, to show how long you actually get during overclocked. It might be a helpful reminder, but would probably constitute a visual clogging up the page. RetroBeany (talk) 06:38, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

One visual which isn't necessary but would be highly useful would be a gif of a turn where a lure reset occurs, a sound gag used before a multi lure. The idea isn't necessarily visual in nature, but it is one of the most important concepts on this page and might do nicely with a little demonstration to set it apart.

The admins will continue to discuss different potential visual elements. I think that it is important that if visuals are added they are added for a reason, rather than to fill up space/have something to look at. The page is for primarily for giving information. The thing about Trap Gags is good in theory, but realistically nobody should be selecting a very clear red Gag in the first place. The other bullet point on Moving Goalposts already explains how to quickly swap off a Gag should the person realize anyway. I will look into about adding the timer, I think that could be a good addition. Let us know if you think of anything else. Workingrabbits (talk) 07:01, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

I'll hold off until I have a visual of it, but the thing about figuring out if a trap is banned after clicking it is actually a fairly common occurrence because of lag. I couldn't say what causes it, but it is absolutely possible for the banned gags to not update for a portion of time where you might quickly click a gag. Normally this is resolved when the colored background changes to red, making it obvious that this lag problem happened. When that happens with trap, it's really hard to notice. At least, I know it was a not uncommon problem in the past, but it may have been resolved by now. The random nature of it happening makes it hard to test for.
I wouldn't add this description back without that visual, as like you said, it might seem really odd that anyone might need to know about how to figure out if a gag is banned after you click it. I would also say that rapidly forging and selecting a gag can have that problem occur, but I can add that as a different line as it affects multiple gags.

Hmmm you do bring up a good point. I forgot how forging a Gag can cover up if its banned or not. I think it is a pretty rare occurrence for that to happen in a time where it matters but still can happen nonetheless. I'll see if I can make a gif of it and will add the appropriate context if necessary. Workingrabbits (talk) 07:13, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
