Gag Training refers to using Gags against Cogs to gain Gag experience. Once enough experience has been gained, that Gag track will reach a new level of Gag, being stronger than the last. This will also allow Toons to carry greater amounts of lower-tier Gags. The amount of experience a Gag will give is equivalent to it's level (e.g. a Cupcake gives 1 exp, whereas a Wedding Cake gives 8). If the level of the Gag is greater than the highest level Cog in a battle, it will not reward any experience.

Players can take advantage of Gag experience multipliers to speed up their training process, though it should be known there is a cap of 1,500 experience that can be gained for a Gag track per instance.

Gag Tracks

In order to gain Gag Experience for a Gag track, that Gag must hit the Cog(s). If a Gag misses, it will not gain experience. The following are some notable interactions with gaining Gag experience:

  • Toon-Up: This track has a constant experience multiplier of x2. Gag Experience is only awarded if a Toon is actually healed by the Gag; self-heal also counts and will give XP if triggered.
    • A unique exception to this is if multiple Toon-Up Gags are used in the same turn. Gag XP will still be awarded for Toon-Up if it would have healed the Toon or yourself before the other Toon-Ups were used in that turn. This means that even if the Toon gets fully healed before the next Toon-Up is used, it will still gain experience.
  • Trap: The Trap Gag must be triggered by Lure to gain Gag Experience; simply placing it does not award XP.
  • Lure: A Lured Cog must be damaged in any capacity to gain Gag Experience; allowing the Cog to unlure by waiting the rounds out does not award XP.
    • However, missing with an unsoaked Zap Gag (causing the Cog to unlure) does award XP.

Gag XP Multipliers

The way in which multipliers stack is additive, not multiplicative. The base amount of Gag experience is "1x". So by default, a level 1 Gag will give 1 XP and a level 8 Gag will give 8 XP.
If a multiplier is "+1x," then we'd get "1x (base amount) + 1x (multiplier) = 2x XP." In the case of 2x XP, a level 1 Gag would now give 2 XP and a level 8 Gag 16 XP.
If we have two XP multipliers active, each giving +1x, then we'd get "1x (base) + 1x + 1x = 3x XP."

The important thing to understand here is that XP boosters that usually result in 2x XP on its own (e.g. Gag Farming Friday, Gag XP Boosters), are not giving +2x XP on their own, but rather is a combination of the base amount (which will always be 1x) and the Gag XP boost. In actuality, Gags have a base multiplier of 1x, with this multiplier being added onto by Gag XP boosts.

The exception to this is the Toon-Up Gag track, which multiplies all experience gained by 2. This boost is not additive, but rather multiplicative. For example, a 6 story Cog Building, which under normal circumstances results in x7 XP, would give x14 XP for Toon-Up Gags.

Some multipliers can give more than +1x, reaching as high as +6x which on its own would give a total of x7 Gag experience.

Training Strategies

Stacking Gag XP multipliers is crucial to training effectively in Toontown: Corporate Clash. There are many methods to stacking multipliers, though the viability of some depends on where players are in the game. It's always recommended to train Gags on Gag Farming Friday to take advantage of the day long +1x XP multiplier, lasting til Saturday 12:00 AM EST (Toontown Time).

Starting Out

For new players starting out, it's recommended to take advantage of Gag Farming Friday to gain +1x Gag experience (x2 exp). On top of this, you can battle Cogs inside a Cog Headquarters for another +1x XP, combined with Gag Farming Friday to give a total of x3 exp. It's recommended to train inside of Sellbot Headquarters as it has the weakest Cogs out of the 4 Cog HQs.

Alternatively, you could battle Cogs on the Streets during a Cog Invasion for the same effect. However, Cog Invasions do not affect Toontown Central, so you'd need to find another Neighborhood that is affected. Ideally, you'd want a low level Cog invasion affecting Barnacle Boatyard. Of course, it's important to be your own judge of what difficulty you can handle.

If you happen to be in a Club, you could request or buy Gag XP Boosters to further increase your experience gained.

Kudos Ranks

Once a player has gained access to a Kudos Board, they can complete Kudos Tasks and Rank up to unlock permanent perks in that Neighborhood. Upon reaching Kudos Rank 2, that Neighborhood will give a permanent +1x Gag XP multiplier for any Cogs battled within it, including Cog Buildings. Once Rank 7 is reached, it will now give a +2x Gag XP multiplier. If you were to fight street Cogs at Kudos Rank 7, during Gag Farming Friday and with a Cog Invasion active, you'd get x5 Gag experience.

Boosters

Gag XP Boosters will increase Gag experience no matter where you are. Due to their flexibility, they're very useful in Gag training. There are 4 kinds of boosters that affect Gag XP:

  • SupportGagBooster.png Support Gag Booster: Gives +1x XP multiplier to Toon-Up, Lure, Squirt, and Sound Gags.
  • PowerGagBooster.png Power Gag Booster: Gives +1x XP multiplier to Trap, Zap, Throw, and Drop Gags.
  • UniversalGagBooster.png Universal Gag Booster: Gives +1x XP multiplier to all Gags.
  • All-StarBooster.png All-Star Booster: Gives +1x XP multiplier to all Gags (plus additional non-Gag related effects).

Note that the Support and Power Gag boosters boost separate tracks, so they'd never be able to give +2x XP to a single track.

Combined they could give +3x XP to a single Gag track. It's important to know that stacking multiple of the same Booster will not enhance its affect, but rather increase the duration it lasts. However, standard boosters can stack their effect with Club Boosters purchased from the Club Shop. The maximum experience multiplier you could get for a track using both standard boosters and Club Boosters is +6x XP, giving you x7 Gag Experience.

Cog Buildings

Cog Buildings are one of the best for training Gags. Cog Buildings give a multiplier equivalent to what their highest floor is +1 throughout the entire building. So a 1 story building would have x2 XP and a 6 story building would have x7. This can be increased by further stacking Gag XP multipliers on top of it, such as Gag Farming Friday, Boosters, and Kudos Ranks. Cog Invasions do not effect Gag XP gained in Cog buildings. It should be noted that Counterfeits refresh every floor, allowing players to forge the same Gag per floor.

Cog Buildings allow for the highest possible XP multiplier in the game. The setup for this requires:

  • Playing during Gag Farming Friday or the Gag XP interval during Silly Saturday (+1x)
  • A 6 Story Cog Building (+6x)
  • Kudos Rank 7+ in that Neighborhood (+2x)
  • A Club with all 3 Booster slots unlocked
  • A Power or Support Gag Booster and Club Booster (+2x)
  • A Universal Gag Booster and Club Booster (+2x)
  • An All-Star Booster and Club Booster (+2x)

This gives a total of x16 Gag Experience, which would be doubled for Toon-Up giving that track x32.
