Pacesetter
The Pacesetter is a Sellbot Manager Boss who was introduced as part of the Hires & Heroes Update. He can be fought in Fast Asleep - All Star Suites on Lullaby Lane after unlocking the Kudos task Give it a Rest!. He was initially teased during the v1.3.0 Informational Video, with his first official appearance being in the 11th Corporate Clash Comic: A Meeting Of Two Minds.
Content Sync
As the soft Laff cap for this fight is 150, Toons fighting against the Pacesetter will not be subjected to Content Sync.

The Pacesetter has a Lure Resistance of 1 round.
The Pacesetter accelerates the battle by +0.25x at the end of every round. This caps at 4x battle speed after 12 rounds.
- Mile-A-Minute speeds up everything in the battle, including the Gag selection timer and the battle animations.
The Pacesetter orders a Rush Job at the end of every round, requiring Toons to use a specific Gag Track (excluding Toon-Up) on the targeted Cog (which can include himself), indicated by a Gag-colored arrow.
- Rush Jobs clear the Cog of all debuffs.
- The specified Gag Track is guaranteed to hit on the targeted Cog, while incorrect tracks retain their normal accuracy and deal 40% less damage.
- Drop on a Lured Cog and Zap on an unsoaked Cog will still always miss.
- DROP : If multiple Drop Gags are used on a Drop Rush Job, only the first Drop will have perfect accuracy.
- TRAP : Trap Rush Jobs only require the Trap to be placed, Lure is not necessary for fulfillment.
- SQUIRT : If a Cog has a Zap Rush Job, Squirt will also have perfect accuracy only if used directly on said Cog.
- Cogs with an active Rush Job cannot be fired, but they can be sued.
Failing to clear the Rush Job causes the Pacesetter to damage all Toons for 35 damage (+10 damage per subsequent failure) and inflict them with Hurry Sickness for 1 round.
Hurry Sickness: Applies a 40% Gag damage down (including Toon-Up).
- Killing a Cog with a Rush Job counts as a success and will not apply Hurry Sickness, regardless of Gag Track used.
The Pacesetter will only apply 1 Rush Job to Cog at a time, and has a chance to use up to 3 Rush Jobs upon falling below certain HP thresholds:
- 60% HP (7500 HP): Pacesetter has a 70% chance to use 2 Rush Jobs and a 30% to use 1 Rush Job.
- 25% HP (3125 HP): Pacesetter has a 33% chance to use 3 Rush Jobs and a 67% to use 2 Rush Jobs.
At the end of every round, if there are other Cogs present, the Pacesetter randomizes the positions of the Cogs (including himself). A Cog can potentially still keep its original position.
The Pacesetter switches the Toons' Gag order on the Gag menu and during the battle round. The chosen Gag order is picked randomly from one of 8 presets, shown below. Trap always comes before Lure and Squirt always comes before Zap. All Toons share the same Gag order.
- The Pacesetter gains access to this cheat after falling below 80% HP (10,000 HP).
- This cheat activates every 4 rounds starting from rounds 1, 5, 9, etc.
There are 8 possible combinations of Gag order, chosen at random. Note: unsafe means that the Gag comes after Lure. This does not include Toon-Up and Throw.
- DROP \ SQUIRT \ ZAP \ TRAP \ THROW \ LURE \ SOUND \ TOON-UP = Sound Unsafe
- SOUND \ DROP \ SQUIRT \ TOON-UP \ ZAP \ TRAP \ LURE \ THROW = Throw Knockback
- SQUIRT \ SOUND \ TOON-UP \ TRAP \ THROW \ ZAP \ LURE \ DROP = Drop Unsafe
- SQUIRT \ TRAP \ LURE \ DROP \ TOON-UP \ ZAP \ SOUND \ THROW = Drop, Sound, & Zap Unsafe, Throw Knockback
- THROW \ SOUND \ DROP \ TRAP \ SQUIRT \ TOON-UP \ LURE \ ZAP = Zap Unsafe
- THROW \ SQUIRT \ ZAP \ SOUND \ TRAP \ LURE \ DROP \ TOON-UP = Drop Unsafe
- TRAP \ DROP \ SQUIRT \ SOUND \ THROW \ ZAP \ LURE \ TOON-UP = All Safe
- TRAP \ SQUIRT \ DROP \ THROW \ ZAP \ LURE \ TOON-UP \ SOUND = Sound Unsafe
Every round, the Pacesetter bans one Gag from every track, chosen at random. Only level 5-8 Gags can be banned, and the Gags banned differ per Toon. Gag bans change each round.
- The Pacesetter gains access to this cheat after falling below 66% HP (8,250 HP).
- The Pacesetter can ban Gags the Toon has already ran out of.
Choosing a banned Gag will damage that Toon for 35 damage (+10 damage per subsequent failure) and inflict them with Hurry Sickness for 1 round.
Hurry Sickness: Applies a 40% Gag damage down (including Toon-Up).
- The initial damage dealt stacks with the Rush Job failure trigger.
The Pacesetter performs a guitar solo and activates Overclocked!, setting the battle speed to 6x for the remainder of the battle. Defeating the Pacesetter will set the speed back to normal (1x).
- The Pacesetter activates Overclocked after falling below 40% HP (5,000 HP).
If all Toons pass on the first 2 turns, Pacesetter will activate Overclocked! at the start of the battle. The Pacesetter will not attack the Toons only while they pass the first 2 turns.
Early Overclocked is essentially a hard-mode for Pacesetter. It grants no additional rewards or benefits, serving only as an added challenge for players. The added effects are as follows:
- 6x battle speed for the entirety of the battle.
- The Pacesetter can use up to 2 Rush Jobs at 90% HP (11,250 HP).
- The Pacesetter can use up to 3 Rush Jobs at 40% HP (5,000 HP).
Hurry Sickness initial damage increases by +20 damage per subsequent trigger.
Strategy
Recommended Gags | |||
---|---|---|---|
Track | "Should I bring this Gag to this fight?" | "Should I Prestige it?" | "How many Toons should bring it?" |
![]() Toon-Up |
Imperative for survival. Pacesetter's never-ending use of his high base damage and the attacks from other high level Cogs can make for a ton of damage dealt to the Toons in just a few turns. It would be very difficult, if not just incredibly resource demanding, for your team to rely on Unites and Prestige Throw's self-healing to sustain themselves in this battle.
![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 3/3 Stars |
While the increased self-heal can be nice as always, the base self-heal can suffice, and the more important of the two bonuses of the Toon-Up Prestige is usually the extra round of Cheer. Unfortunately, the extra round of Cheer doesn't do much when Rush Jobs already give their corresponding Gags 100% accuracy.
![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 1/3 Stars |
3-4 Toons |
![]() Trap |
Completes Trap Rush Jobs, and is otherwise very valuable for dealing high amounts of chip damage to the Pacesetter over the course of the fight.
![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 3/3 Stars |
One of the best Prestiges to take for this fight. Of all the damage-boosting Prestiges, provides the largest boost to chip damage to the Pacesetter per Gag with the least amount of Gag commitment required. Toons who have the freedom to deal some damage to Pacesetter would want to do the highest damage possible to make the most of that opportunity. Often, there will only be one or two Toons with that opportunity, one of which will likely also have to use Toon-Up or Lure - hence, the high regard for Prestige Trap.
![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 3/3 Stars |
2-3 Toons |
![]() Lure |
Completes Lure Rush Jobs. Critical for minimizing damage dealt to the team by the Cogs when they can't otherwise be destroyed using other Gags. Can rarely allow for big burst turns with an easy Throw or Lure Rush Job out.
![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 3/3 Stars |
Very low priority Prestige for this fight. It's too rare an opportunity to be able to cash in enough on the increased knockback for the Prestige to be worth taking, as Pacesetter's Content Sync can be triggered pretty early into the fight and is often capable of putting Throw before Lure. Additionally, Rush Jobs can incentivize Toons to use Gags other than the ones that can capitalize on Lure's knockback.
![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 0/3 Stars |
2-3 Toons |
![]() Throw |
Completes Throw Rush Jobs. Other than that, is useful for chip damage, for Marking the Pacesetter for increased damage from the Gags that come after it (which could even be Trap with the right Content Sync order), and for taking advantage of an easy Lure or Throw Rush Job.
![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 3/3 Stars |
As usual for Manager battles, incredibly useful for this fight, allowing you to deal reliable damage while having to spend less of other resources on healing. You'll want plenty of healing sources for this fight.
![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 3/3 Stars |
3-4 Toons |
![]() Squirt |
Completes Squirt Rush Jobs and is needed for completing Zap Rush Jobs. As a small bonus, the Soaked debuff could linger on the Pacesetter if he doesn't place a Rush Job on himself, allowing for Gags like Throw and Drop to be slightly more accurate when used as chip damage.
![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 3/3 Stars |
Low priority to Prestige. The Prestige isn't great for extra chip damage on the Pacesetter, but it can more easily allow Squirt's Splash damage to "ignore" Rush Jobs on low health Cogs if using something like Sound or Trap instead isn't ideal. See the "General" section of this page for an explanation of "ignoring" Rush Jobs. ![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 1/3 Stars |
2-3 Toons (Avoid being both Squirtless and Zapless if possible) |
![]() Zap |
Completes Zap Rush Jobs. With clever usage, could also serve as decent chip damage to the Pacesetter and can occasionally be used to "ignore" Rush Jobs. Needs someone to use Squirt in order to complete Zap Rush Jobs as placing a Rush Job on a Cog cleanses all pre-existing debuffs on it.
![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 3/3 Stars |
Low priority to Prestige. The Prestige isn't great for extra chip damage on the Pacesetter, but it can more easily allow Zap jumps to "ignore" Rush Jobs on low health Cogs if using something like Sound or Trap instead isn't ideal, and makes it slightly easier to clear Cogs while primarily focusing Zap damage onto the Pacesetter.
![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 1/3 Stars |
2-3 Toons (Avoid being both Squirtless and Zapless if possible) |
![]() Sound |
Completes Sound Rush Jobs. Sound Gags can sometimes be used to "ignore" Rush Jobs on low/medium health Cogs, with an extra benefit being the Encore buff for the following turn. Wiping out a set of Cogs with Sound on an even-numbered round can create a prime opportunity to get a lot of damage dealt to the Pacesetter, as he will be alone and will only be capable of putting a single Rush Job out.
![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 3/3 Stars |
Not a must-have, but great. One of the best Prestiges for boosting chip damage potential on the Pacesetter, especially if the Pacesetter is alone, as it boosts any Gags that could be used as chip damage.
![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 2/3 Stars |
3-4 Toons |
![]() Drop |
Completes Drop Rush Jobs. The best Gag for getting as much free damage on the Pacesetter as possible at the beginning of the fight. Everywhere else, it serves as a great Gag for chip damage. Rarely, given the right circumstances, this can even be combined with other Drop Gags for huge damage on the Pacesetter.
![]() ![]() ![]() Rating: 3/3 Stars |
Not a must-have, but great. One of the best Prestiges for boosting chip damage potential on the Pacesetter, especially if circumstances allow for the use of multiple Drop Gags on him and if debuffs like Soaked or Dazed get to linger on him.

3-4 Toons |
Gag Builds
- Across the whole team, note the following:
- Your team should have a large supply of single target damage that can be used on the Pacesetter (i.e. Throw, Trap, and/or Drop).
- Your team should have at least two Toons with each Gag Track. This makes securing any combination of Rush Jobs much easier, especially when multiple of the same one are given, and allows the team to have a good stock of strong Gags to complete Rush Jobs with throughout the battle.
- Avoid being both Squirtless and Zapless or it will be difficult to satisfy turns with two or more Zap Rush Jobs. Using Zap on unsoaked targets does not count as completing Zap Rush Jobs.
- Rush Jobs can be 'ignored' by killing the Cogs through other means, but your team's builds shouldn't rely on the possibility of being able to do that.
- A 5/5 build is not recommended for this fight as it is most susceptible to running out of powerful Gags to use later in the battle.
- Multiple 5/5 builds in a team risk intensifying this potential issue, and can also cause an issue of not having enough Toons with Gag Tracks needed to satisfy turns with multiple Rush Jobs of the same Gag.
- An 8/0 build will require more skillful play due to the lack of Prestiges and increased amount of options to choose from.
The Fight
- Use the time Pacesetter spends performing his Cheats to type in chat what you'll do next.
- Be specific, clarifying what Gag Track and which Cog you're targeting if multiple Cogs have Rush Jobs calling for the same Gag Track.
- If multiple people call out for the same Rush Job, make sure to quickly establish who will fulfill the job.
- Usually the first person to call out will be the one to take it in this scenario.
- Lure is key and should be used frequently when possible. When a Gag comes before Lure it can be used to reset Lure turns.
- Sound is the most effective for doing this.

Dialogue
Opening Cutscene | The Toons exit the elevator into the Pacesetter's abode, as the camera pans to show the living room. They stop in the center of the room, & stare at the variety of records & musical equipment in one part of the room. The camera then pans to the Pacesetter, pacing in his 'Pace Corner'. "I have been in here for so LONG and nothing has happened!" The Pacesetter stops pacing, briefly. "Being productive!" He then continues pacing briefly, before stopping again. "Hold on a sec..." He turns to look at the Toons. "FINALLY! Entertainment at last! I was feeling myself rust!" The Pacesetter sprints behind the Toons as fast as he can, briefly dazing them. "And Toon visitors for that matter! Great, we can get down to business!" He begins slowly pacing in a circle around the Toons. "With you here, we can make some agreements. You can even become a member of the Pace Place!" The Pacesetter stops and begins to confidently motion a cheer with his arms. "It is a one percent chance of passing and multiplying that by you, that's a whopping ZERO percent chance!" The Pacesetter runs around the Toons at top speed before hopping directly through them, throwing them into the air, before finally jogging in place in front of them as they land. "All that brain mastery you've learned, that is useless here! You are on my racetrack now." The Pacesetter taunts the Toons, smirks, and the battle begins. |

Ending Cutscene |
"This is fine." The Pacesetter walks up to the Toons. "You've BARELY managed to keep up with me so far." The Pacesetter runs in place. "It's pretty sad cause I was just getting started." The Pacesetter stops running. "But, uh, maybe you should take a breather. Meet back up for a second session. For your sake." The Pacesetter walks back to the "Pace Corner". "In the meantime, I'm just gonna go over here and uh..." The Pacesetter promptly collapses. |

Trivia
- A pacesetter is a person or organization that is the first to do new or different things and so provides an example for others to follow.
- The Pacesetter's real name is a reference to the FitnessGram PACER test, a running test used to estimate an athlete's aerobic capacity. The test is commonly used in school physical education classes, and its introductory explanation is a widely spread meme.
- On the cogs.ink website, the Pacesetter's username is
paysergraham
and his password ismileaminute
.- The password was revealed by running down the full route of Twilight Terrace (using the shortcut disqualifies the runner), in which a whisper would congratulate you with the password at hand. The username was revealed both through prior knowledge of the Pacesetter's real name and was included in the initial batch of usernames given by Mac Opsys in the 1.3.0 ARG.
- The Pacesetter's Employee ID is a reference to the "Over 9000!" internet meme.
- The Pacesetter is canonically in a relationship with the Firestarter as confirmed in a tweet posted by Lead Writer Maven.
- The Pacesetter has the highest amount of health and level compared to every other Cog in the game (excluding holiday bosses).
- The Pacesetter's level could be based on Route 66, which is a highway that reaches coast to coast in the United States of America.
- The Pacesetter's guitar is a Gibson Explorer, specifically inspired by one James Hetfield used to use.
- The pattern on the guitar is in reference to Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstrat Guitar.
- When the Pacesetter collapses during his defeat cutscene, it is the same as the memetic "Family Guy Death Pose" of Peter Griffin after falling down the stairs.
- This is the only Cog that has a unique defeat taunt that triggers under a condition, in this case specifically for defeating Ubers.
- The Pacesetter is one of few Cogs that does not have any form of tie. His Skelecog can also be seen without one when hit by a high level Zap Gag.
- The lack of tie also makes him the only Cog that has an exposed undershirt, although in some renditions developed by the Corporate Clash Crew his suit is buttoned up.
- Originally, the guitar explosion phase transition was planned to do damage, but it was scrapped since "it was difficult to plan for".
- Him and the Multislacker are the only two Kudos Regional Managers whose battles don’t end when they are defeated with other Cogs remaining.
- The description of the "Overclocked!" status effect discourages players from reading it, especially when there is not enough time to actually examine it.
- "Reading this doesn't seem like the best use of your time."
- This is potentially a reference to the Sans fight in Undertale, as one of the flavor texts in phase 2 of Sans' battle is word for word of the description of the "Overclocked!" status effect.
- "Reading this doesn't seem like the best use of your time."
- After the Pacesetter is defeated, arrows indicating Toon-Up Rush Jobs can appear over the heads of Cogs for unknown reasons. This does not do anything however and is purely visual.
- The Pacesetter's Payser Test in Phase 2 was brought up as one of Count Erfit's dislikes. This makes it the first reference of the Pacesetter even before their official tease in the 1.3 information video.
- Attempting to access this Manager's fight without the requirements will result in the following message: "You approach the elevator, but as soon as you hit the line you hear a beep. You need to turn back."
- The Pacesetter is currently the only Regional Manager with an integrated harder difficulty, being Early Overclocked, though it offers no additional rewards.
- Passing once but abandoning Early Overclocked's activation will cause Content Sync to trigger every X.00 times speed, rather than every X.25 times speed normally.
- An Official Plush was made of the Pacesetter, created by Toontown: Corporate Clash and Makeship.
- This is the 3rd official purchasable merchandise released by Corporate Clash, announced alongside the Firestarter Plush.
