The High Roller is a Cashbot Regional Manager who made his debut in the MAYpril Toons 2023 event. His first appearance was on the cogs.ink Employee Panel with a corresponding blog post that details into an ARG. He can only be seen during the April Toons events as the staple event boss locationed in The Musical Master of Melody on Tenor Terrace in Mezzo Melodyland. Toons can speak to the Low Ballers located in every Playground to be taken there directly.

Overview

The Major Player enters the stage and introduces a special guest, the Duck Shuffler, to the audience of Managers and some other specific Cogs. The Toons enter the arena from the side of a wall, with the Major Player keeping his word about meeting them again (a nod to his fight). The two Managers do a little dance before fusing their bodies into the High Roller. The Toons step onto the stage and the fight begins.

The screen that appears before the Duck Shuffler and the Major Player fuse

This fight has 3 phases in total. In the first phase, the High Roller prepares a minigame for the Toons, and they must complete its conditions to avoid losing Laff. Afterwards, there is a commercial break for 2 rounds. During this break, Toons will fight groups of Cogs. Defeating the Cogs will deal damage to the High Roller.

After reducing the High Roller's HP to 1, he will spin the wheel once more. This time, instead of a minigame, the wheel lands on a very tiny "Uh Oh" wedge with a sad Toon's face on it. The High Roller summons 3 25.exe Hollywoods and forces you to fight them AND their backup dancers as he sinks into the floor. Mr. Hollywoods will continue to flood the stage for 5 rounds total. Each Mr. Hollywood defeated will grant a permanent increase to your damage in the next phase.

The last phase is the High Roller's magnum opus. He dons a fresh coat of black paint on his suit and strikes multiple poses, each one leaving a silhouette made of light in its place. The four silhouettes become animated and the final battle begins. The High Roller has a monstrous 44,444 health points, but the Toons are stronger than ever, boasting 999 laff and over 10x damage! Toons must first dispose of the his dastardly dopplegangers before attacking the High Roller directly. After defeating him, the High Roller will congratulate the Toons and pose for the camera with them as the credits roll. Near the end, he questions the source of a random whistling noise, which just so happens to be a Toontanic about to fall on his head. A perfectly timed photo is taken as more credits roll, featuring the surviving Toons, and the fight comes to an end.

Cheats

PipsBanner.png

Throughout the entire fight, rather than having an item count, Toons only use their Gags by using "Pips" given by the High Roller at the end of every round. To start off the fight, all Toons will have 7 Pips. The level of the Gag equals to the cost of the Pip (provided no discounts are made from Dice, as seen below). The maximum amount of Pips that can be held is 99.

Dice.png

When entering the fight, Toons are asked to buy a Golden 6-Pip Dice in order to use Gags. If the Dice is not chosen they will have no access to Gags until they do so. This counts even after Phase 1. After selecting the Dice, they are granted the ability to use special Dice to further buff their Gags at the cost of Pips. Each number is a different buff. They are:

  • DiceRoll1.png 1-Pip Dice - Reset your current Dice menu.
  • DiceRoll2.png 2-Pip Dice - Make your next Gag have perfect accuracy for 1 turn. Duration stacks through multiple uses of this Dice. Use of this Dice causes all Gags in this fight roll individual accuracy, meaning this Dice does not guarantee accuracy for Gags such as Sound if other players do not also use this Dice.
  • DiceRoll3.png 3-Pip Dice- Reduce Pip and Gag costs by 2 Pips for 1 turn. Duration stacks through multiple uses of this face.
  • DiceRoll4.png 4-Pip Dice - Makes everyone's Gags 15% more powerful for 1 turn. Power stacks additively (+15% each use), but cannot stack duration.
  • DiceRoll5.png 5-Pip Dice- Grants the user and another Toon a random IOU boost. Once used, this face will go on a 2 round cooldown.
  • DiceRoll6.png 6-Pip Dice - A free 30% Toon-Up unite for everyone. Once used, the face will go on a 3 round cooldown.

Battle timer increase.png

The battle timer will now last 60 seconds instead of the usual 40.

Phase 1

Max Laff.png

Toons start at 15 Laff. As Cogs are destroyed and minigames are played, this max will be increased, up to 150. Toons earn +3 Laff if there is a round where a Cog is destroyed, +15 laff for a minigame win, and +7 Laff for a minigame loss. If the High Roller is defeated before the Toons reach 150 Laff their Laff will automatically increase to 150.

GameTimeBanner.png

The High Roller starts a new minigame, which is one of the following; Puzzle, Shuffle or Trivia. The same minigame cannot be played twice in a row. The difficulty of the minigames increase as the phase progresses.

  • Flunky Trivia - Answer a piece of Trivia by attacking the Cog with the correct answer as their nametag. Throw, Drop, Sound, and Squirt can be used during this minigame. Throw and Drop are for single answers, Squirt is for 2-3 answers, and Sound is for 4 answers. If there is a question with no answer, the player must pass. All Gags will have 100% accuracy. Landing on this options rewards +2 Pips. See Trivia Answers for all answers.
  • Puzzle Show - Figure out how to defeat the Cog(s) before the end of the turn while using a required Gag in the process. Levels increase as the phase progresses. Significantly weaker Cogs are present when soloing. Landing on this option rewards +8 Pips.
  • Cog Shuffle - 4 Flunkies spawn, and one of them will speak. All four will then be shuffled around under cups. Toons will have to find the speaking Flunky after the shuffle and throw a Gag at them. Only Throw and Drop Gags can be used and will have 100% accuracy. Cups are faster as the phase progresses. Landing on this option rewards +2 Pips.

Upon successfully completing a minigame Toons will be rewarded with +10 Pips. If you lose a minigame you will only earn +6 Pips, decreasing to +5 if you continue to lose.

MinigameHostBanner.png

To keep the game fair, the High Roller disables all your Toon's buffs and Dice effects during Game Time. This will not count down rounds or have any effect during the minigame.

Game Over.png

This cheat acts as a punishment for each Toon that fail Game Time. Punishments are on a per-Toon basis. They start off losing 20% of their max Laff, with the amount increasing an additional 10% with each fail. Fail enough games and the damage can go well over 100% of the Toon's max Laff. Do note that if Squirt or Sound is used to hit a correct and incorrect Cog at the same time, the Toon will still be applied with the punishment.

Commercial break.png

After a minigame ends, the High Roller will go on break for the next two turns. Toons will be rewarded with +2 Pips before the battle begins. During these two turns, Cogs will fill the battle at the beginning of each turn. These Cogs can be from any department, can be any Cog Tier, can be Executive, and range from any level between 1-35*. This can break the level cap for lower tiered Cogs. Destroying these Cogs will deal damage to the High Roller dependent on the level of the Cog destroyed, 5x for regular Cogs and 9x for Executive Cogs. At the end of Commercial Break, any Cogs left are disintegrated (not damaging the High Roller) and the fight returns to Game Time. The Cogs reach stronger levels the more that they are defeated, but become weaker the more the Toons stop destroying them.

Phase 2

HollywoodStarBanner.png

Once the High Roller drops to 1 HP, he will summon 3 Level 25.exe Mr. Hollywoods to back him up and turns intangible until they are defeated (meaning he cannot be attacked at all). These Hollywood Stars have random health values, ranging from ~300 HP to upwards of ~900 HP, paired with a growing damage boost that increases by 5 damage every round. They also have a -10 hidden damage debuff.

Hollywood Hijinks - The High Roller's last commercial break, and the fun doesn't stop at 3 Mr. Hollywoods! Toons are tasked to defeat as many Mr. Hollywoods as they can for 5 rounds. Toons will start with 16 Pips and will earn +8 Pips every round. There is no cap to the amount that can spawn. The Cog capacity will increase to a max of 6 as the rounds progress. Each defeat counts towards a damage boost given in Phase 3. See Raising the Ante below.

Phase 3

PipsBanner.png

During Phase 3, if a Toon has 15 Pips or more, the Pip gain is reduced to +4. If Toons have 30 Pips or more, the Pip gain is reduced to +2.

Raising the ante.png

Toons have a maximum of 999 Laff. If they were missing Laff as a result of Phase 2, then they are automatically given a fixed amount of Laff that tallies up to 999 Laff. They will also be given a damage boost equivalent to the amount of Mr. Hollywoods destroyed from the last phase. Minimum of 10x. The formula is 10x + 0.04% of the defeated Mr. Hollywood's health. There is no maximum cap.

TrickOfTheLight Banner.png

The High Roller summons 4 different colored Silhouettes. These Silhouettes are translucent copies of the High Roller that come in 8 different colors, each with their own cheats. The High Roller will summon them at the beginning of Phase 3, then do it again the following round after the High Roller is left with no Silhouettes.

  • Silhouettes are Level 25.mgrs that start with 8,000 HP, which is reduced by 2,000 every time the High Roller summons a new set, with a minimum of 4,000 HP. When defeating a Silhouette, all Toons will be rewarded with 4 Pips, which increases by 2 with every set of Silhouettes defeated. Each Silhouette has the Status Effect Refraction Barrier, a passive damage resistance of -222 damage, and an additional Status Effect of one of the following, unique to the color of the Silhouette:
    • C45HB4CK.png C45HB4CK: Hits Toons affected by Toon-Up (not self-heal) for half the Gag's base healing.
    • TR4PC4RD.png TR4P-C4RD: Retaliates for 100 damage if Trap is placed or if unlured when Cogs attack. Retaliation damage is increased by 100 each time another Trap is placed.
    • GR33NL1GHT3R.png GR33NL1GHT3R: Immune to Lure, gives other Cogs the Virtualized buff which grants -2 turns of Lure, and makes a random other one completely immune each turn.
    • F4C3V4LU3.png F4C3 V4LU3: Prevents all combo damage. Does not prevent Lure's knockback damage.
    • Off-Limits.pngSPL45HB4CK: If Squirt is used (regardless if this Silhouette was hit by it or not), the user will be hit for 5x the Squirt Gag's base damage (this does not include any buffs such as Raising the Ante, IOUs, 4-Pip Dice, etc.), meaning the maximum amount of damage it can deal is 600. Additionally, the Toon's who used Squirt will receive the Soaked? status effect, nerfing further Squirt Gags by 50% for 3 turns. It will also grant any Soaked Cogs 50% Damage Resistance.
    • UnusedPrethinkerStatusEffect.png F1ZZL3: Makes Zap jumps do only 1 damage.
    • S1NG1NBLU35.png S1NG1N' BLU35: Grants everyone 500 turns of Winded while alive. If all 500 rounds have passed, the status effect goes away for 1 round then returns to 500 by the next round.
    • J0K3R.png J0K3R: Has a chance to either promote or destroy the level of a Toon's Gag, and is more likely to trigger on Drop Gags. Promoted Level 8 Gags do 2x damage. The Pip cost will depend on the original Gag that the Toon has chosen (e.g., picking a Birthday Cake that promotes to a Wedding Cake will deduct 7 Pips instead of the usual 8).

Harmonious Colors.png Harmonious Colors Text.gif

The High Roller is invincible at the beginning of the round where he summons Silhouettes, unaffected by attacks and debuffs. He will drop this ability the following round and start with a 95% resist modifier. This decreases by 5% for every Silhouette destroyed, then goes away after the last one is destroyed. This modifier returns once he uses his Trick of the Light cheat again.

Extra attacks banner.png

The High Roller will hit up to two times in one round.

DiceRouletteBanner.png

On the TV screen, two Dice labeled "Damage" and "Targets" will be shown. The higher the number, the higher the damage and the amount of Toons that will be hit by the dice. The target dice, however, will not hit the Toons if it lands on a 5 or 6. The 5-Die will deal no damage to anyone while the 6-die will attack the High Roller and any available Silhouettes (proportionate to the Damage Die). If this cheat is used, it will be counted as credit towards the two attacks the High Roller can use in a round.

AceintheHoleBanner.png

On the turn after the High Roller reaches 2/3 of his health (or 29000 HP), he will slam the Toons with a giant card, making them take 222 damage and applying a 20% damage vulnerability for the rest of the fight. This cheat can only be used once, and is NOT counted as credit to the two attacks that the High Roller can use in a round.

Trivia

  • A high roller is the name of a person who gambles or spends a very large amount of money.
  • On the cogs.ink website, the High Roller's username is _______ (seven spaces) and his password is B!NGO_H3R0_UNT0LD.
    • You must also click on the "I am a:" tab and label him as a Contractor, although nothing in-game indicates he is one.
  • The High Roller's profile has an entirely different layout and theme compared to others.
    • It was inspired by websites created in the 90's/early 2000's.
    • The Technical Team limited themselves to using HTML 4.0 and CSS2 which are both from 1998 to add to the effect.
    • All images were filtered to use "web safe" colors only which was an important thing to consider for older websites.
  • When viewing the employee list on Jennifer's cogs.ink account, the High Roller's honorific will change every time you reload the page. It can choose from the following honorifics: Mr., Ms., Mrs., Ms./Mrs., Mx., Mx./Mr./Ms., Don, It, and Your Quackjesty.
  • Like the Duck Shuffler, the High Roller speaks with a lisp to that of Looney Tunes' Daffy Duck. Although every "s" sound he makes is instead replaced with "ff".
    • This change is not always consistent, as seen on his blog via his profile and during Trivia segments.
  • The High Roller has the highest amount of health and the highest Level out of any Cog to date, beating previous records by miles.
  • When the Duck Shuffler and the Major Player perform their fusion dance, the High Roller will appear creating the iconic pose of Sailor Moon completing her transformation into a magical girl.
  • All the Cogs in this fight have white gloves, similar to how they do in the Major Player's fight.
  • The "Uh Oh" slice of the wheel is not visible before Phase 2. After Phase 2 it becomes visible and stays on the wheel.
  • There are several concepts of the High Roller that never made it into live game, as shown in its respective Backstage Blog.
    • One of the major ones was the planned ability for the High Roller to "roll" in order to use a random Manager's ability. This was scrapped due to time constraints and was used for Overclocked Face the Family.
  • High Roller is the first and only Cog in the game to have a voice clip in coherent English.
  • All Cogs in this fight, including the Silhouettes and Flunkies from minigames, are counted towards defeated Cogs for ToonTasks.
